Greenville, S.C. – Furman's
Kristyn Embler has been named the Southern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Embler tossed a complete-game shutout and drove in the winning run to lead Furman to its first Southern Conference win with a 3-0 shutout of first-place UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. The Harrisburg, N.C., native scattered seven hits without surrendering an extra base hit and struck out two Spartans to pick up her fifth win of the season. She delivered a single to right field in the first inning that staked the Paladins to a 2-0 advantage they would not relinquish en route to handing UNCG its first conference loss of the season.
The Paladins are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Presbyterian in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is set for 4 p.m. with the second game scheduled for 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Admission to Pepsi Stadium is free.
Tuesday is Masters Weekend at the Park and special guest Matt Davidson, the head coach of the Furman men's golf team, will throw out the first pitch and one lucky fan will have a chance to win big in the Masters Weekend Putting Challenge.
