N.C. State Downs Furman, 9-2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Brett Kinneman went 4-for-4, homered, drove in a pair of runs, and scored twice to power 12th-ranked N.C. State to a 9-2 victory over Furman in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Dail Park.

The victory earned the Wolfpack (6-1) the series victory heading into Sunday's 1:00 p.m. finale.

With the score tied 1-1 in the third, Kinneman draw a one-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on an Evan Edwards RBI single to give N.C. State a 2-1 lead.  He later led off the fifth with a home run to make it 3-1 in a three-run Wolfpack frame.

N.C. State tallied runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth behind a 13-hit attack that also featured a 3-for-3, three-RBI performance by Edwards.

Kinneman's home run was his third of the series after going deep twice in Friday's 10-0 victory.

Ben Anderson and Brandon Elmy paced Furman (3-3), each going 3-for-4 in the contest as the Paladins finished with eight hits.

Anderson led off the game with a single and scored on an Elmy single to give Furman a 1-0 lead.  N.C. State quickly tied it in the bottom of the first on a Shane Shepard sacrifice fly.

Earning the victory was Johnny Piedmonte (2-0), who worked six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.  He struck out five.

Furman starter Jake Crawford (0-1) took the loss after also going six innings.  He allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks while fanning two.
