GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Winners of three of its last four games, including a weekend series victory over 2019 NCAA Tournament participant Campbell, Furman's baseball team will look to extend its recent momentum Tuesday when it plays host to Quinnipiac in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Latham Stadium.
The game will be live streamed via the SoCon Digital Network. Â In addition, it will be broadcast over Fox Sports 1440 AM and Furman campus station WPLS 95.9 FM, as well as audio streamed via FurmanPaladins.com and Tune-In.com with
Dan Scott, "The Voice of the Paladins," on the call. Â Â Fans can also follow live stats via FurmanPaladins.com.
Furman (8-8) is expected to throw freshman right-hander
Matthew Marchal (2-1, 3.86 ERA), a product of Greenville's St. Joseph's Catholic School who will be making his collegiate starting debut following five relief appearances.
After dropping a 13-3 verdict to Campbell in Friday's series opener, the Paladins bounced back in solid fashion to win Saturday, 14-6, and take the Camels in Sunday's rubber game, 8-2. Â The storyline in both Furman victories over Campbell was starting pitching as redshirt junior left-hander
John Michael Bertrand hurled six innings of two-hit ball on Saturday, followed by sophomore right-hander
Rob Hughes, who allowed only one hit over seven frames in Sunday's triumph.
Furman also perked up offensively over the weekend, registering 24 hits and 22 runs in its last two outings to raise its team batting average to .241.
Sophomore
Jordan Starkes (.345, 1 HR, 9 RBI) continues to pace the Paladins at the plate, and the Charlotte, N.C., product has also flashed the leather in the center field, most recently on Sunday when he making a leaping, over-the-fence catch in the eighth inning to rob Campbell of a home run. Â Starkes' stellar play earned him ESPN Sport Center's No. 2 Play of the Day.
Quinnipiac (1-11) is coming off a three-game sweep at Mississippi State, where the Bobcats fell to the Bulldogs, 5-1, 5-4, and 8-4.Â
