Box Score ATLANTA, GA. -- Dalton Davies went 3-for-4 and scored two runs and Georgia State scored eight middle inning runs to take the lead en route to a 10-8 victory over Furman in Wednesday baseball action at GSU Baseball Complex.
Furman (10-18) built a 3-0 lead on the strength of a Jordan Starkes' two-out, two-run single in the second before Georgia State (9-20) answered with three doubles in the fourth that led to four runs and a 4-3 lead.
After the Paladins tied it in the fifth on a Logan Taplett RBI single, the Panthers took control with another four-spot in the bottom of the inning, roughing up Paladin reliever Mason Kenney (0-1) for six straight hits, including a two-run double by Rhett Harper to go up 8-4.
Georgia State tacked on two more runs in the seventh to extend their advantage to 10-4.
Trent Alley led off the Furman eighth with his second home run of the season, and in the ninth Sterling Turmon cranked his sixth round tripper of the season — a two-out, three-run shot to center field — to pull the Paladins to within 10-8.
At that point Brandon Bell, GSU's starting right fielder who had gone 2-for-5 at the plate, was brought in to pitch, and he retired Logan Taplett on a ground out to end the game and notch his third save of the year.
The Panthers banged out 16 hits in the game while Furman, playing for a second consecutive game without senior outfielder Jabari Richards and senior first baseman John Michael Boswell, finished with nine.
Starkes, Alley, and Fontana led the Paladins with two hits apiece.
The win went to Seth Clark (2-0), who tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Kenney was charged with the loss after yielding four runs on seven hits over just 1 2/3 innings.
Furman opens a three-game series at UNCG on Friday, with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
