CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson downed Furman, 5-2, Saturday in men's tennis action at the Duckworth Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.

The Paladins picked up wins at flights one and two singles in the contest. Senior Jake Munns came from behind to defeat Gabriel Diaz Freire, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(7-5), in the top-seeded match up, and junior Ivan Mitric held off Teodor Giusca, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, at flight two.

The Tigers won two of three doubles matches to take the opening point. Jacob Jahn and Yizhou Liu topped senior Clarke Wilson and junior Henrik Atlevi, 6-3, at flight two, and Giusca and Carlos Kelaidis beat sophomore James Roelofse and Mitric, 7-5, at number three. The flight one match was unfinished, with Clemson's Diaz Freire and Dodens leading tenth-ranked Munns and senior Jake Bhangdia, 6-5.

Clemson scored four singles points with victories at flights three through six. Liu defeated Bhangdia, 6-2, 6-0, at number three, and Kelaidis recorded a 6-4, 6-1 advantage over Atlevi at flight four. At flight five, Jahn downed junior Drew Singerman, 6-2, 6-2, and in the flight six match Dodens slipped past Roelofse, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(10-5).

Furman (0-3) will open the 2020 home season next Saturday when the Paladins entertain Gardner-Webb. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
