GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman blanked Gardner-Webb, 4-0, Saturday in the Paladins home opener at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  

The Paladins won two of three doubles matches to claim the first point.  Seniors Jake Munns and Jake Bhangdia, who rank tenth nationally, held off Ross Gilbert and Breno Plentz, 6-4, in the top-seeded contest, and junior Drew Singerman and senior Clarke Wilson defeated Alex Griffiths and Stefano Puga, 6-3, at number three.  The flight two contest was unfinished, with Connor Enslin and Sebastian Harris leading junior Ivan Mitric and sophomore James Roelofse, 4-3.

Furman picked up singles wins at flights one, three, and four for the team victory.  Munns bested Plentz, 6-4, 6-1, at flight one, and Bhangdia blew past Victor Putter, 6-1, 6-1, at number three.  At flight four, Singerman topped Griffiths, 6-2, 6-1.  

The match at flight two was unfinished.  Mitric won set one, 7-5, and Gilbert was leading 2-1 in the second set when the match ended.  Matches at flights five and six were not played.

Furman (1-3) will entertain Winthrop Sunday at noon at the Mickel Tennis Center.  The Runnin' Bulldogs drop to 0-1 with the loss.
