Lyons Named SoCon Player Of The Week; Paladins Prepare To Face Chattanooga

Senior Averaged 27.0 Points, 3.5 Rebounds In Wins Over VMI, ETSU

Greenville, S.C. – Furman senior Jordan Lyons has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday by the league office.

The Peachtree City, Ga., native averaged 27.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last week to help the Paladins open the new decade with victories over VMI and ETSU. On New Year's Day at VMI, Lyons connected on 10-of-12 three-point attempts and all eight of his trips to the foul line to score 40 points in an 89-73 victory. He became the first Paladins since Darrell Floyd (1954-56) to post two 40-point games in his career and his 10 triples trailed only his 15 in a 54-point performance versus North Greenville last season.

On Saturday, Lyons led all scorers with 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and added two steals to propel Furman to a 65-56 win over SoCon preseason favorite ETSU at Timmons Arena. The victory extended the Paladins' winning streak to six games and snapped the Bucs' five-game winning streak.

With the win, Furman improved to 13-3 overall and took over first place in the Southern Conference at 3-0. The Paladins, who currently rank 70th in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) and 65th in the Pomeroy Ratings (KenPom.com), moved to No. 3 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25.

The Paladins, who haven't lost since an 81-78 overtime loss at No. 5 Auburn on December 5, return to action Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. tip-off versus Chattanooga at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Mocs hold a 54-34 lead in the all-time series between the schools, but Furman has won five straight meetings in the series and seven of the last nine. Chattanooga, 10-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, is coming off of a victory over Mercer this past weekend. Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Furman Sports Network on 1440AM, via the TuneIn Radio app and on FurmanPaladins.com.

Furman returns home to host the UNCG Spartans as part of a men's and women's Weekends at the Well doubleheader presented by Ingles and Healthy Blue at Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday, January 11. The women's team will take on Samford at 4:30 p.m. before the men entertain the Spartans at 7 p.m.

Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday's game by logging onto FurmanPaladins.com or by visiting the Timmons Arena Box Office. Fans can also find out all information about the "Downtown Dins" on the Weekends at the Well page
