GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman women's tennis head coach Adam Herendeen announced today the addition of Ellie Schulson of Newburyport, Mass., and Sara Snyder of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
"Today is a really exciting day for us as we officially welcome Ellie and Sara into the Furman family," said Herendeen. "Both of these players are an excellent fit for the things our program values: they are great students, they are from strong families, and both have trained under really well-respected coaches. We believe that Ellie and Sara each have the ability and experience to contribute significantly to our team from day one, and we cannot wait to get them here to begin that process."
A five-star recruit by www.tennisrecruiting.net, Schulson is the second-ranked player in Massachusetts and has ranked as high as 20th nationally. She achieved a number one USTA sectional ranking for 12, 14, and 16 year old age groups and currently ranks second among 18s. Schulson, who won four national open singles tournaments, has received multiple USTA sportsmanship awards.
Schulson ran cross country and track for Newburyport High, where she won all-conference accolades as a freshman and sophomore. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was honored as the Newburyport Business Student of the Year.

The top-ranked player in Puerto Rico, Snyder is also a five-star recruit by www.tennisrecruiting.net. She competes for Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Fla., where she went undefeated in both singles and doubles as a junior. A National DecoTurf Tournament MVP, Snyder won the state individual singles and doubles title in 2019 and was honored as the Palm Beach and SunSentinal Player of the Year.
A high school All-American, Snyder led Saint Andrew's to five district, region, and state championships and a third-place finish at the national championships. She has been honored for her academic achievements and is a member of the Headmaster's List.
