Greenville, S.C. – Furman, idle for the last week, returns to action at Timmons Arena on Wednesday when the Paladins host the Mercer Bears in a key Southern Conference men's basketball showdown. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The first place Paladins, who have won three straight games, enter Wednesday night at 18-5 overall and 8-2 in league play following a 74-72 overtime victory over VMI last Wednesday night. After losing its first four league games, Mercer has won six in a row to improve to 12-11 overall and 6-4 in the SoCon.
Free pizza will be provided for Furman students while supplies last and they will have the opportunity to register to compete in a $10,000 contest. A raffle will also be held that will include prizes such as a JBL speaker, Furman Basketball gear, Air Pods and a $50 book store gift card.

Furman holds an 18-10 edge in the all-time series versus Mercer and has won each of the last nine meetings. The Paladins opened conference play with a 64-62 victory over the Bears in Macon, Ga., on December 20., behind 25 points from
Jordan Lyons. The senior scored on a drive to the basket with under 20 seconds to play to give Furman the lead and tipped away an inbounds pass as time expired to preserve the victory.
A win on Wednesday would mark the Paladins 10
th straight at Timmons Arena, where the Paladins boast a 60-11 mark since the start of the 2015-16 season. Lyons, with a Furman victory, would tie 2019 Furman seniors
Andrew Brown and
Matt Rafferty as the all-time winningest players in school history with 90 victories. He also needs just three triples to pass Eric Webb's school record of 274 career three-point baskets.
Following Wednesday's game, the Paladins travel to Western Carolina on Saturday and Samford next Wednesday before hosting Chattanooga for Legend's Weekend on Saturday, February 15.
