Furman Hosts UNCG Saturday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena

Game Time Set for 12 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team returns to downtown Greenville on Saturday afternoon to host the UNC Greensboro Spartans in Southern Conference play at 12 p.m. from Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

With the increase of COVID-19 transmission and infections, everyone attending an indoor athletic event at Furman University is required to wear a mask. Masks are required upon entry and must be worn within the facility except when eating or drinking.

The Paladins (17-7, 9-2 SoCon) won its fifth straight game on Wednesday after defeating The Citadel 102-83 at Timmons Arena. Furman reached the century mark for the second time this season after beginning the year by scoring 118 against North Greenville. The last time the Paladins scored over 100 points in a game multiple times in a season came in 2018-19 when they registered 102 against Bob Jones, 107 versus North Greenville and 101 against The Citadel.

Jalen Slawson scored 17 points to lead six Furman players in double figures after shooting 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 behind the 3-point line to go with five rebounds. Alex Hunter added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting while making 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Joe Anderson and JP Pegues came off the bench to score 14 and 12 points, respectively. Marcus Foster compiled 13 points and five rebounds, and Mike Bothwell 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Garrett Hien tied his career high of five assists.

The Paladins concluded the game shooting 54.9 percent overall and 50.0 percent on 3-pointers. Furman held the advantage in points off turnovers (23-13), points in the paint (44-22) and bench points (37-36).

Bothwell is tied for the team-lead in scoring this season averaging 15.3 points per game while Hunter and Conley Garrison contribute 14.3 and 9.6 points. Slawson matches Bothwell at 15.3 points while pulling down a team high 7.5 rebounds per game.

UNC Greensboro is currently 12-10 on the season and 4-6 in conference play following a 76-65 loss to VMI on Wednesday. De'Monte Buckingham leads the Spartans with 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. UNCG is under the direction of first-year head coach Mike Jones.

The Paladins and Spartans are meeting for the 42nd time in program history with UNC Greensboro holding a 21-20 lead in the all-time series.

Furman travels to Johnson City, Tenn. on Monday, February 7 to face East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
