GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Anna Morgan (-2) fired a 2-under 70 to tie for fifth, while the Furman (+5) women's golf team sits in third following Friday's opening round of the 48th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,256-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan eagled the par-5 No. 13 and parred the other 17 holes to finish the day two strokes back of North Florida's Christin Eisenbeiss (-4) who led the field with a 68 on Friday.Â
Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (E) is tied for 15th after one round of play. She recorded an even 72 with four birdies, including three birdies in four holes from No. 13 through No. 16. Freshman Faith Johnson (+3) is just outside the top 25 at 27th after shooting a 75. Faith paced the Paladins with five birdies on Friday and tallied three birdies in four holes from No. 12 through No. 15. Â
Freshmen Liza Lapeyre (+4) and Chloe Johnson (+4) are tied for 40th after each posted a 76 in round one. Chloe played a flawless first 11 holes and added a birdie on No. 9.Â
Sophomore Caroline Crumrine (+4), who is playing as an individual, carded a 76 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 11 to also tie for 40th.
The Paladins (+5) are five strokes back of leader Old Dominion (E). North Florida (+1) is in second place, followed by Furman in third. Tulane (+6) and UNC Wilmington (+6) are tied for fourth.Â
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with final round play slated for a shotgun start Sunday at 9 a.m. Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and will play in a group with Old Dominion and North Florida..
