GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team is set to compete at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament showcases the top women's tennis players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. Play will begin on Thursday and continue through Monday.
Qualifying singles will begin Thursday at 9 a.m. with doubles to follow in the afternoon. Friday will feature two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles. Matches are scheduled to commence at 9 a.m. each day. Five members of the Paladin team will compete in singles at the regional, including juniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder, who will compete in the main draw. Junior Grace Thomas, along with freshmen Macy Hitchcock and Maeve Thornton, will play in the qualifying draw.
The Furman doubles teams for the tournament will include Hitchcock and Schulson plus Snyder and Thornton. Junior Alexa Griffith and Thomas will also team up for the Paladins.
This weekend, 14 different regional tournaments will take place across the United States, with over 18 teams competing in the Carolina Regional. The regional singles champions and finalists and regional doubles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships, which will begin on Nov. 1 in San Diego, Calif.
