Furman Men's Golf Honored With GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team was honored with a 2023-24 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Outstanding Team Academic Award, as announced today by the organization.

To be eligible for GCAA Outstanding Team Academic honors, a university must submit GPAs for each player on their official squad list for the academic year, and teams with a combined 3.5 GPA and above earn the award.  The Paladins posted a 3.54 GPA for the 2023-24 athletic season to join 58 other NCAA Division I who earned the distinction.

"As coaches, awards like this make us as proud as the wins and trophies on the course," said Furman head coach Matt Davidson.  "Especially at an academically challenging school like Furman, it means our students are managing their time well and prioritizing both golf and school at a very high level."

In addition to the Furman's success in the classroom, the team flourished on the course.  The Paladins won their home tournament, the Furman Intercollegiate, to wrap up fall competition in 2023.  Junior Trey Diehl opened the season with a victory at the Minnesota Golf Classic, where he finished at 9-under par, and sophomore Harris Barth finished eighth at the SoCon Championship and was honored as a member of the All-SoCon team.
