Greenville, S.C. – High Point netted a pair of first half goals to edge Furman, 2-1, in the exhibition opener for both schools Saturday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers took the lead in the 27
th minute when goalkeeper
Aaron Salinas was unable to keep Jefferson Amaya's curling free kick from trickling over the line. High Point doubled the lead in the 39
th minute as Lukas Kamrath laced a left-footed strike from outside the box into the upper left-hand corner.
Furman got on the board in the 57
th minute. A pass down the right flank reached freshman
Malachi Grant and his low cross was redirected into the net by
Lloyd Wamu Snell near the back post.
High Point compiled an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks while Furman held an 8-7 edge in shot attempts on the night. Sophomore

Ivan Horvat split time in goal for the Paladins with each playing 45 minutes.
"We got to see a lot of guys play tonight," said Paladin head coach
Doug Allison, now in his 30
th season at Furman. "There will be plenty to work on as we continue our preseason."
The Paladins and Panthers got in extra work with two 10-minute overtime periods. High Point's Jackson Ruckman capitalized on a mistake at the back by Furman to tally the Panthers' lone goal in the overtime period in the 92
nd minute.
Wesley Goodwin added a goal for the Paladins off a corner kick in the second overtime.
Furman hosts Lees-McRae in exhibition play on August 17 before entertaining UNC Wilmington in the regular season opener at Stone Stadium on Thursday, August 22, at 8 p.m.
