CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. -- Furman fell to tenth-ranked Virginia, 7-0, Wednesday at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Cavaliers won two of three doubles matches to take the first point.  Furman seniors Jake Munns and Jake Bhangdia, who rank tenth nationally, defeated Carl Soderlund and Christian Alshon, 7-6(1), at flight one, but Virginia claimed close wins, both 7-5, at flights two and three.  Matthew Lord and Ryan Goetz topped senior Clarke Wilson and junior Henrik Atlevi at flight two, and 53rd ranked Gianni Ross and William Woodall beat junior Ivan Mitric and sophomore James Roelofse at number three. 

The Paladins put up a valiant fight in singles, with close matches throughout the scorecard.  Sixth-eighth ranked Ross held off Munns, 6-2, 7-5, at flight one, and No. 115 Goetz slipped past Mitric, 6-4, 6-3, at number two.  In the flight three match up, Furman's Wilson claimed the first set, 6-3, before Woodall answered with a 6-3 victory in the second set.  Woodall posted a 10-5 victory in the tiebreaker.  At flight four, Lord notched a 7-6(7), 6-2 advantage over Bhangdia, and Ammar Alhaqbani defeated Atlevi, 6-2, 7-5, at number five.  In the number six match, Alshon beat Singerman, 6-1, 6-2.

Furman (0-2) will square off at Clemson Saturday at 11 a.m.
