GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman hammered Winthrop, 6-1, Sunday in men's tennis action at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins swept the doubles matches to take the opening point. Seniors Jake Munns and Jake Bhangdia, who rank tenth nationally, downed Miha Velicki and Lluis Miralles, 6-3, at flight one, and junior Ivan Mitric and senior Clarke Wilson blanked James Hartson and Abhi Vannemreddy, 6-0, at number two. At flight three, junior Drew Singerman and sophomore James Roelofse blew past Connor Williamson and Enzo Silveira, 6-1.
Furman posted straight set victories at flights two through six to clinch the win. Mitric topped Williamson, 6-2, 6-2 at flight two, and Bhangia recorded a 6-3, 6-4 advantage versus Miralles at number three. At flight four, Singerman defeated Velicki, 6-2, 6-1, and Roelofse posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hartson at number five. Junior Henrik Atlevi entered the Paladin lineup at flight six, beating Silveira, 6-1, 6-1.
Winthrop's lone point came in the top-seeded contest, where Vannemreddy defeated Munns, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6.
Furman (2-3) is idle until February 8, when the Paladins entertain both North Greenville and Davidson at the Mickel Tennis Center. First serve versus the Crusaders is set for 9 a.m.
