GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team scored three singles victories and two doubles wins Saturday in day two of the 34th annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic, which is being held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
Freshman Sara Snyder defeated 78th-ranked Anika Yarlagadda of North Carolina, 6-2, 7-5, at flight four, and senior Madison Dillon came from behind to beat Tennessee's Callie Creath, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. At flight nine, freshman Jess Dawson posted a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Clemson's Samantha Buyckx.
The Paladins picked up two key victories in doubles, as Adams teamed with Dillon for a 6-2 win over 41st-ranked Emma Antonaki and Tamara Racine of Mississippi State, and freshmen Snyder and Schulson beat Ohio State's Sydney Ratliff and Maddie Atway, 6-2.
"I am really pleased with the adjustments we made with our doubles to start the day," said Paladin head coach Adam Herendeen. "We played some really good singles, and it was awesome to see our girls grit out some tough matches."
Twelve of the 13 teams competing in this weekend's tournament were ranked in the top 42 in the 2021 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: Texas (1), North Carolina (2), Florida State (7), Duke (8), Georgia Tech (10), Ohio State (12), Tennessee (18), South Carolina (26), Vanderbilt (29), Wake Forest (33), Furman (35), and Mississippi State (42). Clemson also joins this weekend's field.
The tournament will conclude with one round of singles on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
