DURHAM, N.C. – Juniors Lee Gilmer and Erin Barker each placed sixth with personal best times in the men's and women's 1,500m to lead the Furman track and field teams at the Duke Twilight Meet, held Sunday night in Durham, N.C. Gilmer posted a time of 3:48.13 in the men's event, while Barker finished the women's race in 4:39.44.
The Paladin men's team had six additional athletes compete in the meet. Sophomore Wilkerson Given took 12th in the 1,500 with a time of 3:57.16, while freshman Jack Klecker placed 15th (4:00.14) in the event (4:00.14) and rookie James Perez finished 17th (4:00.52). In the 5,000m, junior Chris Caldwell placed tenth with a time of 15:18.14, and freshman Zach Duskin finished 14th in the 400m with a time of 50.62 and 24th in the 200m at 23.25.
In the field events, sophomore Scott Des Marais recorded an 11th place finish in the discus with a mark of 135-8 (41.37).
The Paladins will compete at the Tiger Qualifier on May 14 in Clemson, S.C.
