GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman defeated Davidson, 4-1, and North Greenville, 7-0, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
In the day's opening match, the Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to take the first point. Seniors Jake Munns and Jake Bhangdia, who rank 26th nationally, downed Yash Parikh and Matthew Rose, 6-2, at flight one, and junior Drew Singerman and sophomore James Roelofse topped Alexander Loope and Camden Mazzoni, also 6-2, at number three. The flight two contest was unfinished, with senior Clarke Wilson and junior Henrik Atlevi leading Alex Fries and Douglas MacIntosh, 5-2.
Furman won three singles matches in straight sets for the team victory. Munns held off Parikh, 7-5, 6-4, in the top-seeded match up, and Wilson beat Thomas Mason, 6-2, 6-3, at number three. At flight four, Singerman recorded a 6-2, 6-3 advantage over Sam Kavarana.
The Wildcats scored at flight two, where Fries slipped past Bhangdia, 6-4, 6-4.
Matches at flights five and six were not played.
In the afternoon match, Furman swept the doubles matches. Atlevi and Singerman beat Mieszko Kwasniewski and Yannis Moulod, 6-2, at flight one, and Roelofse teamed with rookie Chad Nash for a 6-1 victory over Alex Kostka and Giacomo Garini at flight two. At number three, freshmen Jason Smith and Charlie Meyerson blanked Bryson Meece and Corban Wolfe, 6-0.
The Paladins won all six singles matches in straight sets. Bhangdia downed Kwasniewski, 6-1, 6-2, at number one, and Atlevi defeated Moulod, 6-2, 6-2, in the flight two contest. At flight three, Roelofse held off Kostka, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, and Nash topped Garini, 6-3, 6-2, at flight four. Meyerson posted a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Meece at number five, and Smith blanked Wolfe, 6-0, 6-0, at number six to complete the sweep.
Furman (4-3) will play at UNC Greensboro next Saturday.
